I don't know for sure, but it seems like if you sell pups right after they're born, they die. Is this true, or are people just retiring them?

People are just retiring them. Wolves can only get death script at age 15.

Maybe try selling them for a little more?

No. Any wolf, no matter the age, does not just die after selling them. Wolves in this game can only die from old age, retirement, or if never gathered from the free-range.

If your wolf has died after being bought, then they were retired.
