"Hey Salt Shaker didn't you post this once before-" *does reiki on you that gaslights you and makes you think i never did* This time I promise not to instantly abandon... I Guess... Like before, it's still been a very long time since I organized a RP, so this'll probably be rough around the edges. I don't care to polish it I just want to have fun yarr. Contents Part 1: Plot Part 2: Rules Part 3: Roles + Character Form - [The year is 1678. The world is similar to ours, but in an alternate timeline where all the mythical beings medieval people believed to be real are truly real. False settings and historical figures can also exist.] The crew of the White Tide have been terrorizing bays from here to there for decades now. Known for their brutal nature and fearlessness, they're the thorn in the royal navy's side and at the forefront of every merchant ship's fears. However, with a new captain in charge and their last few battles ending poorly (mostly alive, but poorly), the White Tide is entering a crisis. To top that off, the original captian hid his treasure somewhere and didn't bother telling anyone where, so now they're kind of... treasureless. To combat this, they all decided to go with the genius plan of kidnapping the princess for ransom. And maybe hiding in a siren-infested bay just to toy with the royal navy. What could possibly go wrong? Well, sirens know what anchors are, and now they're not giving it back. The ship is stuck and surrounded by hungry eel-like, shapeshifting creatures who keep trying to lull everyone overboard, and as the nights go by everyone's resolve and sanity is chipping away to the sound of siren whistles. The princess isn't doing too well being shoved on a dirty ship when she's made for a pristine castle. They never actually meant to hurt or kill her, she was just there for some quick money. So now they're faced with a few issues, and for once it would actually be nice if the navy came by because they have got themselves in quite the predicament. The new captain's constant slip-ups and their most recent plot disaster is making crew loyalty drop, the sirens are absolutely salivating under the hull of the ship, and the princess looks like she had a bit too much salt water to drink. They've been here for three days now and probably don't have much left before a mutiny, a siren feast, their plot backfiring, or all three occur. New Addition: Nearby there is a deserted island taken over completely by wildlife, but it's an island full of many more hostile mythical creatures. If you can't take it on the boat anymore, you could always try to flee there... but even if you manage to out-paddle the sirens, there will be many more trials and dangers waiting for you. - Rules -All WP rules apply -Reservations last 12 hours -All romance pairings allowed obviously, but please note that romance is not the main priority of this. -Characters must be older than 23 and preferably way older than that. Name Arthur Patrick Seamor Age 42 Gender Male | He/Him Role Medic Sexuality Unlabeled Appearance Arthur stands at about 6’3” and weighs a measly 145 lbs. He has little to no muscle mass on his body, appearing mainly like a twig. His arms are slightly longer than usual, making him look a bit peculiar at first glance. His skin is extremely pale, although turning red isn’t a rare occurrence considering how much sun he’s exposed to. He has dark brown, almost black hair which is speckled with gray hairs. His face definitely shows his age, wrinkles prevalent across his skin. He always has bags under his eyes. He has a well shaven beard, the dark hair also being peppered with gray. His eyes are a dull brown, with his left eye being slightly clouded from an early cataract. His eyesight is quite bad, needing to wear a thick pair of glasses that seem to be barely held together by the wire rims. The left lens has a large crack running across it. He has a few scars across his body, one from when he accidentally cut his arm with one of his scalpels, another from a burn grabbing hot metal (long story) on his right palm, and a few small scars on his face from shaving incidents. He is missing his middle finger on his left hand, it having been cut off after it had been mangled by a feral dog. His typical outfit consists of an off-white doctor's coat, it having once been white however the years of dirt and bodily fluids has caused it to become stained. Underneath he wears a cotton shirt in a similar situation, and a pair of brown slacks. Around his waist is a belt which holds many different pouches of herbs, a bottle of whiskey, a bonesaw that only has a little rust and blood on it, and a loop for his mask. With his, he constantly carries a plague doctor’s mask, the black leathis molded into the shape of a magpie’s face. The lenses are perfectly clear, and the beak is stuffed with a mixture of many fragrant herbs and oils. While he may not use it in protection from the plague, it definitely does help shield him from the pungent odor of filthy sailors and pirates. Often with him he carries his doctor’s bag, which is filled with various surgical tools, a few clean-ish rags, more whiskey, and some ripped cloth to use as bandages. He also has a small pouch that is filled with dried citrus peel shavings. Personality To put it simply, Arthur is a big teddy bear. A big teddy bear who has a terrifying amount of murder weapons on him most of the time. He’s very shy when meeting new people, and first impressions are very important to him. If he doesn’t like you the first time you meet him, it’s difficult to get on his “good side.” While he isn’t hostile with people he doesn’t like (most of the time,) he often tries to find an excuse to get away from them if he’s completely alone. Around his friends, he’s very jovial. He has a great distaste for royalty and other wealthy people, seeing most of them as snobby and a bit rude. If curiosity killed the cat, you better believe the satisfaction brought Arthur back. He does a lot of experiments on just about anything possible. While in his past he has definitely caused a few accidents to happen from his intrigue, he tries to keep deaths to a minimum nowadays. He is also fascinated by animals, specifically bugs and birds. Anything with wings really. He absolutely loves animals and he is absolutely the kind of man who would just sit in the corner at a party with the host’s dog or cat. He has a collection of small animal bones he’s come across over the years, seeing them as neat trinkets to take with him. He also adores finding interesting rocks and crystals, often picking any he finds up and giving them as gifts to his friends. They may not appreciate them as much as he does, but he doesn’t mind. He is genuinely clueless when it comes to flirting. He hasn’t felt the desire to be in a relationship with anyone, and frankly he’s fine with that. Any attempts to get with him have to be blatantly laid out or else he is not picking up what you’re putting down. He has the awareness of a stereotypical lesbian, except he doesn’t even realize that there is the possibility someone is trying to flirt. Background Arthur has always had a fascination with anatomy ever since he was a child, observing any dead animals he found and reading any books he could get his hands on. As he grew older, his interest only intensified and he went to study human anatomy to become a surgeon. He was successful, graduating and able to find a job quite quickly, working for a few years in his hometown starting at the age of 28. His practices were… unorthodox to say the least. He would sometimes experiment on people in unnecessary ways while doing his regular duties. Needless to say he fucked up and got a few important people killed which caused him to be ostracized, his tarnished reputation preceding him. His name was spread throughout the country as someone to not hire and he was unable to find work. Unable to find any over-the-table work, anyways. He went to a port town and offered his services to the ships departing from the docks. The crews would often be desperate enough to have a lesser chance of dying that they would overlook his past and accept his help in exchange for money. At the age of 35 he was bouncing from ship to ship, serving as their surgeon and getting a fair amount of cash in the process. He started to be seen as a fairly good doctor again, saving the lives of many crewmates on the sea. While his past was still talked about, he was revered in port towns of his proficiency and willingness to do basically anything. It’s not uncommon for medics to be taken along with other things when pirates raid a ship on the seas, and that’s exactly how he ended up with this motley crew. subject to change i havent looked at this form in Forever - Name Gore Buckley Age 34 Gender Male | He/Him Role Sailing Master Sexuality Gore don't caare (unlabeled) Appearance Gore is both your stereotypical pirate and also not something you'd expect to survive at sea at all. Standing at 6'3 with broad shoulders, a strong back, and a very messy appearance, he definitely looks the role of sea rat. However, with his long spindly legs and toned but far from burly appearance, he also looks like he should have been blown away by high winds by now. Gore has a diamond faceshape with a square-ish jaw and rough features. In some lightings he can be mistaken for the ship cabin boy, in others he looks like a man his age. His nose is an average length with a gracefully bumped nose bridge that ends in a small blunt hook. His eyebrows are thick and bushy, perched above permanantly exhausted green eyes with long lashes. He likes to say that he's adapted like a camel to all the sandy beaches with those thick eyelashes of his. Gore sometimes has piercings when he gets over his fear of sickness and infection, and usually pierces his lower lip. His teeth are crooked but decently white for a pirate. Gore's hair is thick and wavy, easily reaching his shoulders. He keeps it styled in a mullet so that way it won't be in his face but he can still get the perks of having long hair. The only part of his appearance that he cares to maintain is that hair - everything else has been left to get as dirty and scraggily as it pleases. Usually he has a red bandana in it like every proper pirate should. His hair is dark brown with some parts bleached from natural plant dyes. His skin is tanned from the sun and covered in plentiful freckles. Younger Gore used to bake like a lobster, but it seems he's finally tanned enough to stop turning bright red after one sunny day. The man has not touched a razor in forever, sporting patchy stubble that will never grow into a beard no matter how hard he affirms it will. Gore usually wears the average pirate fit with high-waisted jeans and a loose blouse. Sometimes he has a very worn pair of gloves on, but mainly he likes to let his large, heavily calloused hands to be free.
Personality Gore, for a swash-buckling, adventurous pirate, is oddly quiet and shy. He's warmed up to his crew of course, he's known most of them for years, but he's more like the ship cat rather than a fellow crewmate. He rarely participates in parties past his bedtime. It's incredibly hard to get past the superficial conversations with him. It's easy to earn surface-level trust, but anything deeper is like trying to dig for buried treasure. He'll talk to his crewmates and communicate easily enough with them, but the second someone new gets on the ship, captive or non-captive, he disappears exactly like a cat would. You won't see him for at least four days before he finally starts appearing in public again. His jobs will get done, but you won't see him doing them. Gore is known for sneaking around and scaring his crewmates unintentionally. He goes to bed early so that way he can bolt upright at midnight and go run around on deck, do all his little jobs and go fishing without anyone bothering him. Due to his generally dark clothing he can blend in pretty easily, even despite how tall he is. Maybe it's just the fact that he blends in with the poles because he's built like one, but most shipmates have at least one story of getting jumpscared by him after dark without him even meaning to scare them. Mostly. Sometimes he does do it to scare them... but he'd never admit that. Ever since he was a teen, he's been a good climber and very agile, so therefor he's usually tasked with the crow's nest job and rigging. He loves being in the crow's nest - anything where he can do his own job is great for Gore. Give him a simple repetitive task where he can be alone with himself and he will be your most loyal worker. Despite how reserved and shy he is, Gore is truly an adrenalline junkie and, as long as unfamiliar people aren't involved, he is one of the bravest crew members. He's not good with tone so you can't quite tell he's joking when he calls you a pussy for not doing the job he's about to do. Gore is the one they send out to get things done that everyone else is hesitant for, because he will probably find it fun and exciting. Gore will jump straight into terrifying situations without second thought, usually either straight-faced and unamused or buzzing with glee to finally do something new. He has a great sense of humor, but you wouldn't know because he's generally too shy to tell his jokes. He may secretly have a vulgar sense of humor typical of a pirate, but despite being surrounded by people who tell those jokes regularly, you still have to hype him up to share one. Many of the crew's inside jokes and overused ones originated from Gore's rare exit from his shell. Usually he only has a smug smile when he's thinking of something witty but won't share with the group. When he does warm up to new people on ship, he's like your personal interrogator. Unintentionally. He's very curious and the only conversations he knows how to have are ones where he's only asking questions and you're only talking about yourself. Vain prisoners love Gore because he lets them go on and on. Some people think he's trying to extract information, but he's truely not, he simply forgets conversations should be about him too at times (and focus being on him for any amount of time makes him nervous.) Gore is foul-mouthed even if he's shy. He was raised on a ship after all. Usually uses offensive hand signals to piss people off, but when he's using vulgar language, it's only because that's how he knows to speak.
Gore has a few things that make him very interested and excited, and the two at the top of that list are stars and monsters. He's been obsessed with stars ever since he was a young boy and his father would teach him how to read them. Though he's pracitically illiterate, Gore's insanely good at math, and usually uses stars to help him in his calculations. Numbers and equations are what he does for fun sometimes, he likes having a good puzzle to mull over. He's better at solving in his head than he is on paper and he'll need someone to verbally tell him the problem, but he'll find a solution very quick. The other interest, monsters, is what he lives for. Gore loves sea monsters. Gore has been waiting his whole life to have a chance to catch a siren -- but now he's learning the hard way that those are much harder to catch than be caught by. He and Arthur treat monster hunting like they're two hillbillies on a reality TV show about sasquatch. Background (optional) Gore has been tossed around from ship to ship for as long as he can remember. His family was on a merchant ship when he was a young preteen boy that was attacked by a pirate crew. Most of his family and that crew was either kidnapped or slain, and he spent half of his teenage years being the pirate crew's powder monkey. When he was around 15, the White Tide's crew attacked his original ship, and he was found hiding in a barrel after the fight. Since Gore was a young boy and the White Tide has at least some sense of mercy, he was taken on board with the victors. His new job was much less intense, and he was used as a simple ship's mate. Since then Gore has found he's a better sailor than a fighter. He's good with a sword, of course, but he highly prefers running around messing with the ship rigging and other small tasks. If they ever come across a fight where the ship needs to be manuevered, they usually shove Gore at the steering or near the flags. Not so they can flee - if you want to flee, you keep Gore far away from those things, because he'll force you to stay and fight it out since that's what Gore would do. But he knows good angles to attack from and how to make sure the ship won't get hit and the other guy will. That's been his job his whole life... besides being the bait they send out if they're more reluctant to step foot in a dangerous place than he is. Other/Trivia -Gore has very low literacy. Being born a commoner and kidnapped at the age of 12, he never got a proper education. What he can do is write his full legal name, one joke about the captain having homosexual tendancies, the name of the White Tide, latitude/longitude notations, and that's it. He was taught by a doctor they had on board a few years ago. He can kind of read... but anything that isn't his own 3-word notes and uses fancy words goes right over his head. He has the reading/writing level of an 8 year old and if he attempts to write anything higher level, it's bound to be strewn with misspellings and bad grammar. Don't look in his sailing notebook because all of his notes are written in Gore English. -Gore has sworn off smoking, but he will eat anything you give him. Dude is like a dog. You put it on the table in front of him and he's chowing down even if he knows it's bad for his health. Scurvy isn't going to be This Guy's demise. -Gore has never been in a romantic relationship because he simply Does Not Think About It. Too busy surviving to care for one. I have no idea what Gore's sexuality is and he don't care either way. I may be open to romance for him I Guess but it will have to be more slow paced.
