Name:
Asani
Meaning “Rebellious” In Swahili
Age:
4 Years
Gender:
Male
Pride:
None
Rank:
Rogue Male
Desired Rank:
King
Is not willing to settle for being a mere Guard
Thoughts on Who Should Lead?:
Himself, of course. At the female’s right hand (or paw). He is hoping for a particular one, though. Thus, if nothing else were to change, he believes that the Queen should choose one of the rogue males herself (after the usual trials) and then let that male choose his female. Overall, however, he views this as a sign that major changes are needed.
Appearance:
Asani is by no means a heavy set male, although muscular. He is quite plainly built for more strategic type battles than all out teeth gnash and claw slashing brawls. In other words, he’s not a tank. He can take a number, but it is not considered his forte. Nor is he meant to last, having a limited stamina pool to the already lacking aspect of his kind. Rather, he is considered to be known for his harsh strikes. He hits hard, aiming to deliver devastating blows that can knock one out of the fight soon after it starts – preventing them from wearing him out. This is aided by the aforementioned muscular form his body takes. The majority of his muscles remain prominent around his legs and shoulders, adding a bit of “umph” to all his strikes. The rest of his body does have a good amount of muscle to it, but it’s nothing compared to the areas previously mentioned. His weight of 470 pounds can also add a bit of strength to his attacks, but is not the key feature in the majority of his moves. However, it should be noted that he has to ensure that he lands all the blows he dishes. Missing is not an option in the game of dwindling stamina. Not being the largest of males – standing at a mere 3’9” – doesn’t exactly allow him to gain the upper hand in battle. There are much large males roaming about his current area, and being smaller can spell disaster in such a scenario. His body has compensated for this fact by giving him longer than average males, resulting in a larger reach. His paws are larger than most as well, granting even more power to his blows as well as a higher probability to land the hit. What durability he does have comes in the form of his large and thick mane. It protects his neck and shoulders well from attacks by adding an extra layer for enemies to break through to do any amount of damage to him. His tail is about average length for a lion with the usual fluffy tip. It provides no sort of advantages or disadvantages to his already bulky form. Long whiskers extend from his cheeks, wiry and decently good at sensing touch. His posture is typically that of confidence, and is almost always present no matter where he roams.
The male’s coat is mostly standard when it comes to coloration. Its design is mostly solid, with the cub based spots or similar markings having faded away with time. The solid base color is the usual dull and dusty tan. This color extends along his sides, back, upper face, and tail (which does end with a brownish-black tip). However, his fur does dabble into the coppery side of tans around some portions. His lower legs, cheeks, and shoulders all showcase this interesting color. White fur lines the inside of his legs and his underbelly. It is constantly dirtied during the dry season, so it may be hard to spot. Some more white surrounds the bottom of his paws, creating “mit” like patterns on them. It starts a little after the halfway point of his toes, moving downwards to surround his black pads. The lion’s chin and lower-inside parts of his lips are the only other spot where pure white can be observed (at least, as pure of a white one can get in his natural habitat). The only other color even close to this shade is the near-white tan surrounding his eyes. This lighter shade of tan also outlines his darker coppery tan “eyebrows.” What is likely his most striking feature is his eyes. They are naturally a dark and rich shade of amber. However, in some lighting (especially darker ones), they can appear to be a coppery red. His nose, like some lions, is not purely black. It has a mixture of pink right between the nostrils, darker in shade and riddled with remaining black specs. His mane is a true spectacle of colors. It starts out as the coppery-tan around his cheeks, forming a sort of inner circle to his mane. Stretching outwards, a shade of light tan becomes the noticeable color. It takes up residence over the majority of his hairs, but especially the middle section of his lower mane. Speaking of the lower section, the latter half of it is a shade of brownish-black that connects to his chest. This same color can also be seen sprinkling itself onto the top parts of his upper mane, only touching the light tan sections. The lack of his brownish-black signifies his younger age.
The coppery lion has gathered quite the number of scars over his few years of living, strictly coming from unrelenting prey and fierce competition from other predators – other male lions and hyenas being the most bothersome. The most noticeable of these scars (despite being the most underwhelming) is a rounded black scar located right above his nose. It was earned during his young years when he was still young enough to be considered a member of the pride. He as well as a few other young lions decided to test the patience of a honey badger. He was one of the few that came out of the interaction with a nasty bite. A slash across his shoulder is a testament of the battles between other males he’s endured. Once more, this one formed during his younger years when he believed himself to be on top of the world itself. He was put in his place rather quickly. An injury received from that same fight was a bite to his tail. He’s lucky he didn’t lose it, given the way the tooth marks have scarred over. An odd sort of injury that he himself doesn’t know the origins of is a miss claw in his back right foot. He assumes that it happened during a difficult hunt, but cannot be for certain. Finally, haunting his haunches like the whips of a looming ghost are a series of “nips.” Or small bite marks. They were delivered to him by a rather sizable clan of hyenas that were after his kill. The majority of them are now covered by his returning fur, but some still stick out between the hair follicles acting as their blanket.
The rogue male’s voice is one that can be memorable to those that hear it. It is pretty deep in pitch, often coming out as more of a rumble than comprehensible words. Having others talking over it, turns it into nothing but the backdrop of a bass note to a flowing harmony. His dark tone adds to this odd noise, causing it to sound like the steady thrum of a line of low brass. Rich and imposing, but beautiful all the same. It’s hard for most lions – particularly lioness – to not find some amount of trustworthiness within it. After all, who wouldn’t want to trust a voice as dark and “sweet” as chocolate.

“And what makes you think I care about those rules? As far as I’m concerned, they merely exist to protect an obviously failing set of norms.”
This coppery feline is quite the ambitious one. He holds great aspirations for his future, aiming to be sitting at the highest rank he can achieve. Road bumps and setbacks are in no way excuses to settle for less. The very existence of them further proves that he was made for his goal, especially if he can work past them. And he absolutely will! He is a hard worker, after all. Never taking a rest until he moseys on by the problem. It may tax him both mentally and physically, but he sees it as all worth it. However, he can remain patient in his ambitions. He can wait to be a king. One can never be too slow at achieving their dreams, himself included. Rather, it’s those that act too quickly that spoil the whole thing – sending all their progress rocketing into their own face. As long as he gets there eventually, he can wait a lifetime.
The muscular male has a knack for staying true to his words. No matter how much he may despise them. He will not stray away from a promise, nor completely reword it in his favor. It may as well be set in stone the moment he agrees to it, or proposes it. More than likely, he proposed it. His words always hold a level of honesty to them as well. He will not lie to get his way, and he certainly won’t suggest something that he knows is impossible. Truth is something that he holds dear to his heart, hence his tendencies to keep promises. However, he can also be… slightly manipulative – leaving his honest words somewhat vague and up for interpretation. He will never let the other in on the meaning behind his words. Rather, he’ll allow them to think that they know exactly what he means only to prove to them that they were wrong in the end. But they can never accuse him of lying. He never did. He kept his word, and it’s their own fault for looking at it the wrong way.
Asani isn’t exactly one for traditions. He abhors them, actually. Views them as sorry excuses to preserve certain groups or aspects of a life. Things that are mostly unneeded and do loads of harm instead of promoting good and fair qualities. As such, one can find him to be rather rebellious towards them – resisting the authority of most of those so-called “rules.” Not in a malicious way, though. He’d hold anything but such intent. In actuality, he simply wishes to rebel against and shine a light upon the heavily flawed ones. Or, flawed in his mind. He understands that some are around to “remember the olden days” and thus have intrinsic value, but that doesn’t make it good. Though, he is willing to… “play the part” if it means he has a shot at becoming King – acting as though he cares about and will uphold such beloved customs. Or even physically acting on them. But, unless he makes a deal of sorts, some are bound to go. If he had any say in it, anyway.
The ambitious lion is by no means warm and cuddly. Neither is he sympathetic or caring towards the hurt and struggling. He is simply cold and – towards outsiders – heartless. Unless it pertains to or affects him, he couldn’t give a damn about another’s problems. It’s their issue, not his. They got themselves into the mess, so they can get themselves out. Exceptions are not often made to this either. Relatives of this being will absolutely find themselves walled off from any small amount of comfort his body may pertain. Only those who have wormed their way into the center of his heart may receive his ear (at the very most). During his own rough patches of life, he will definitely be distancing himself from others. He doesn’t care about their strife, so why should he let them care about his? At least, that’s what he tells himself. He can be a bit snappy towards those that do dare and shove their nose into his business. Baring his teeth, growling, and smart comments are typically what they’ll receive. Though, a quick and held-back slash is also on the table if they don’t take the hint.
Overall, this male is quite the serious and straightforward type. He sees no benefits in playing around or cracking jokes. No amusement in them either. Both are for cubs, the only ones whose playful actions he will excuse (and allow towards himself). For adults, it should be left behind once one reaches adulthood. They have to uphold their pride and provide food, after all. It’d just be a waste of time. As for being straightforward, he not only can’t understand the point or punchline behind most jokes but he basically doesn’t beat around the bush. He will tell anyone – point blank – what he thinks of them, their situation, and any of the grievances he holds towards or about them. He’s got nothing to hide. Don’t blame him if they can’t take it. He’s simply sitting facts. Besides, that just means that they need to grow up a little.
Asani can be charismatic at times, believe it or not. He has this odd sense of… charm to his otherwise cold and uncaring self. Especially when around females. He tends to be a bit of a charmer when given the chance, using flattery and subtle movements to ensnare their attention onto him. Though, he is in no way attempting to toy with them. He honestly aims to just gain their trust and support. Maybe even attraction? But that’s always saved for those he’s actually interested in. An added bonus to his odd charming side to him is his “gentleman” like manners. Yes, you heard that right, this seemingly coldhearted fellow has manners. Good ones at that – never putting down a female as weak, but still providing aid or “kind” gestures so signify that he does indeed find them important. While still helping them out. He always shows them a great amount of respect, and refuses to tread over them like some ruling males do. They will absolutely be treated and royalty under his care.
The “red” eyed rogue carries an interesting air of protectiveness wherever he goes. A promise to defend the weak and chase out the tyrants. Never before has he left behind or ignored the cries of the frightened. Nor has he rolled his eyes at another’s injury or predicament when he can do something in that moment. While, deep down, he does not truly care about their plight (so he says), he still won’t deny aid to those in need. Not if he can even help in that very moment, that is. He is rather confident in his ways as well. Always certain that he can handle the situation to some capacity. He has faith in his own capabilities and knows how to utilize them with precision. When he goes to protect another, he knows for certain that they will escape without further injury. Though, this protectiveness of his is saved for the elderly and young. Not for the able bodied, unless they manage to touch him in some way. If they are strong enough to defend themselves, then he will leave them to it.
A warning to all those unwise enough to double cross him: he’s coming for your hide. This bulky male a vengeful one, after all. He doesn’t take any sort of flack or lying or cowardly sneak attacks. If you’re going to talk about him, say it to his face. If you’re going to lie, be prepared to be shamed. If you attack him from behind, expect to receive ten times the amount of damage dealt to him. Even if that results in death. He will not rest until what he perceives as justice is served. However, he does grant these beings a tiny bit of mercy. He plays fair. He holds high standards to his actions, and will not allow himself to stoop to the lows of his attackers. He will not “hit below the belt” or attack without warning. Nor will he throw dust into another’s eye or attack when they’re weak or down. Those are the tactics of a cowards… a thing which he is not.

Other:
- Asani is not a fan of the Pride’s customs. While some he can stand for some, others… not so much. He is fine with those that aim to protect the weak and pride in general. But those that work to preserve ruling bloodlines? Not his style.
- When he becomes King (of this pride or any), he will absolutely be attempting to rework their customs. Not in his favor, per say, but he will shun those laws that protect the strongest class. He cares not whether a male or female leads, but instead will focus on who has the chance too. And that there are structures in place to keep order in case the worst were to occur, such as the scenario currently playing out before his eyes.
First ever lion RP character, let’s go! :D
As always, let me know you’d have me edit or change anything. ^^
