Standing at 15.2 hands (62 inches) – with his expected size being more than 17 hands – Epiales is rather large for a yearling of his age and will be a formidable horse in the near future. He is built from nothing but pure muscle. An absolute unit of a stallion. His muscles are always seen rippling under his pelt at each and every movement he makes – excluding the small ones. Due to this, many consider him to be born for battle. A monstrous horse built for war and nothing else. He doesn't enjoy this outlook that others may or may not have of him, but he does try to practice “battle tactics” daily with any yearlings that are willing to do the same to hone his skills… which not very often due to his raw strength. What training he has partaken in has earned him a relatively good stamina pool which is used to put up a rather good challenge for any who believe themselves worthy to face him. The mane and tail of this “beast” of a horse are oddly mature for a yearling, being rather lengthy – with his mane draping part way down the right side of his neck and the tail nearly touching the ground. It is unlikely that either will grow any more than they already have. A section of his mane has grown in front of his face, covering the right side of his forehead and (sometimes) even his eyes – giving him the stereotypical “emo” appearance he has grown to love.

The stallion’s pelt is a beautiful mix of black and white, with the deep black of his fur being the more dominant shade. The colors twist and bend around each other, attempting to coexist but failing miserably at doing so. Some have described his patterns to be akin to the age-old battle between darkness and light. And, in this case, the darkness is winning. What little “light” is left resides as the form of various splotches along his body. Two of these white marks out its land along his hind legs as socks – ending well below his calcaneus. Other groupings for a couple of patches along his neck and sides. These white patches come in a variety of shapes which have no distinct form. They can either be thick and powerful (such as that on his lower left side), nothing but a few specs (like that on his right, adjacent from the larger mark on the left), or somewhere inbetween. The largest congregation of “light” rests on his head. Here, the white is a bit more wild than that of the various patches scattered around the rest of his body. It starts on either side of his snot, turning his nose to a pink hue, before slowly creeping up the darkness. The right side is snuffed out quickly – swallowed by the darkness – while what is left of the battling light continues up the left side. However, it is soon forced to retreat to avoid the black around his eye. The white crests on his forehead, covering the fur above his right eye before being completely surrounded. With nowhere to run, the light must stay and battle the darkness for as long as the stallion has left to live. But, the battle may already be lost.

The coloration of male’s mane – like most of his fur – has also fallen victim to the lure of the comforting darkness. It is pitch black in color and flowy, yet very thin. Pair this with its already long hairs, and it can easily be mistaken as black smoke flowing from his mane under the cover of darkness. Akin to that described to be the wispy mane of a ghost. The “emo bangs,” like the rest of his mane, as taken on this alluring complexion and provides some good contrast to the white it typically rests upon. His tail follows the theme set by his mane, being dark and wispy like smoke, just not as thin. The eyes of this yearling are a deep amber – nearly red in color, and oft considered such. His gaze is often sharp, cutting through even the toughest of horses with blaring red and stunning them with a single glance. Though, at the rare times that it’s soft, that “red” can turn into a gentle rose or a shimmering amber – depending on the lighting.

As one would expect from his tendency to spar with the other young horses of the herd, this ghost of a horse has earned himself a decent amount of scars. Not many (much to his slight displeasure), but some. One such scar is located along his left shoulder, jagged and gray in complexion. Its like is the form of a bite, likely received when things got a bit too rough during a match. Another is a scrape located on his lower left side, directly above the white patch. Its origins are unknown, but most wouldn’t doubt that it also came from a sparring match. Besides these two, there are not too many other scars that decorate his pelt – but those that do can give the illusion like stars in a dawning sky.

Epiales’ voice is in the makings of being something powerful. It is low and gruff, but demanding – designed to be listened to and not fought against. It leaves little room for opposition unless around those he considers as his equals. However, he constantly has voice cracks that push his voice higher and higher in octave over time (much to his embarrassment), lasting quite a few minutes at a time. His words always carry a dark, rich, typically monotone… well, tone at most hours of the day. At times of intense emotions, his words can be rather off putting – able to shake some of the most unbothered of souls. His eyes likely aid in this endeavor, but his voice carries enough of the burden. No noticeable accent attaches itself to his words – at least, not one that differs greatly from the accents the herd already has.

Friends:
Clover – One of the only yearlings to actually care about him. He is quite fond of her and will gladly begrudgingly follow her around on her numerous adventures, just so he can keep her safe. They’re essentially the “conjoined twins” of the group. Though, if they weren’t related, he may have actually been interested in her.
Loki – A fellow “down in the dumps” yearling that he can get on surprisingly well with. Their shared pessimistic nature causes conversation to come with ease, much to his delight. While Epiales acknowledges that his brother doesn’t do “friends,” he does still consider him as such. Maybe Clover’s optimism is rubbing off on him a tad too much.
Other:
- Epiales typically remain on the outskirts of the herd not far enough away to be considered alone, however), due to his desire for solitude and silence – or what silence he could take. He only appears to the herd members at night and at a distance. However, with the lead stallion now gone, he’s gotten more ballsy and has been getting closer and closer to the herd every day.
- Since I talked about my two favorite horses from the movie, why not talk about the one I wasn’t particularly fond of. Raine was a bit… bland to me. She had her moments and I did feel bad for her when she fell down the waterfall, but I just found her… I guess the best way to put it would be the “stereotypical” love interest. Not that there’s anything wrong about that, I just found myself unable to grow too attached to her like I could Spirit and his mother.
