Untamed Kingdom

Near Lake Kariba, a small but old and flourishing pride of lions lives, their ways a bit unusual in comparison to other prides. For the Matobo Pride, their life, while not easy, has been stable as they stick to the traditions that build the foundations of their pride. Like many, lionesses are the core of the pride, but also viewed as their primary leaders, their Queen. For the better half of a decade they’ve been lead by a strong female and her mate, but as age wears on her body the time for a new Queen has settled over the pride. Normally, things went smoothly, the Queen’s chosen daughter would take over, and then choose the trials male candidates had to perform before choosing the best suitor from them.

All of that was seemingly flushed down the drain though when the Queen’s only surviving daughter was found dead one morning, her life taken by poachers. It was the worst case scenario for the pride and their leaders, since they did not have any other female heirs after struggling to successfully have and raise their litters. As it stands, they only currently have one son in the pride, but tradition states leadership has to be passed on to a female heir.

Tension settles over the pride as their future is left up in the air. The Queen and King will have to decide, do they choose a female that isn’t their own progeny to take the helm of the Matobo Pride and carry on their traditions, or do they reverse the traditions and allow their son to take over? With the decision looming over them, and rogue males arriving since it's customary for the pride to allow outside males to take part in the King Trials, the stability the pride has had for so long seems to be faltering.

As more comes to light as days pass after the death of their Heir, the danger the pride is in continues to grow. The Queen and King know they’ll have to make a decision soon for the future of the pride, but with the entire future of the pride resting on their shoulders they’re determined to not make the wrong choice.
