Appearance: Inara stands about 5 foot 3, and has a fragile, delicate build. She is slender with little in the way of curves or muscle. Her body shape could best be described as rectangular, with a small bust and narrow hips/shoulders. Inara has dark olive skin with golden undertones, and calloused hands that are often stained with bodily fluids or plant juices. Her handwriting is neat but decorative, favoring smooth looping lines over more direct straight ones. Her hair is straight and glossy black in color, hanging to just above the small of her back. She usually wears it in a half-ponytail or neat braid. Inara’s face is heart-shaped with delicate features. She has a rosebud mouth with lips the color of pale terracotta. Her nose has a thin bridge and a slightly upturned end, and is overall on the smaller side. Inara has thick brows that are well defined and very expressive. The eyebrows are only slightly curved, and would be described by most people as straight. Her eyes are a pretty hazel that flash green in the right light. The eyes themselves are almond-shaped and upturned at the outer corners, as well as being slightly larger than average. Inara has a naturally soothing voice that is warm, yet light. She often smells like lemons and vinegar, with an incongruous hint of wildflowers.

Personality: Inara is extremely introverted, and would be more than happy if she only saw one person a year. However life demands that she not live like a hermit, and thus she is prickly and short with most people she interacts with. Inara has little patience for false reassurances or those who try to cheat her, and isn’t afraid to give those who annoy her a thorough tongue-lashing. While usually not rude without cause, Inara is naturally sarcastic and cynical, rarely seeing the best in people or believing in the optimistic outcome. Besides being introverted, Inara is also fiercely individualistic, and finds it easy to resist peer pressure and other methods society uses to force people to conform. However she is smart enough to know that sometimes it’s easier to follow a stupid rule to get what she wants rather than fight it solely on principle. Part of Inara’s dislike of people is her hatred of being vulnerable, as she is terrified of letting someone in to see all her flaws. She also has a strong fear of being abandoned due to her parents leaving her with her mentor at a young age. Finally, Inara has a strong sense of pride in her abilities as a healer and her knowledge of the human body, and finds it impossible to resist answering any challenges pertaining to them or defending her abilities to a critic.

Backstory: Inara has been apprenticed to an herbalist in Yreka since she was 9. She has seen little of her family since her apprenticeship began, which was very hard on her during the first few years as she became very homesick. Initially she didn’t get along with her mentor, but as the years went by they developed a grudging respect for one another. She has made few friends in that time, her natural preference for being alone and prickly personality combining to keep most people at a distance.
