It was too early. The sun rose, again, and now it was bright and he had to get up and no. Rogue growled softly and rolled over to face the back wall. If he kept his eyes closed then he could pretend it wasn't morning. That the rest of his pack was not emerging and greeting each other as they prepared for the day. Pups were not yipping at each other. Right. Outside. There was not someone calling his name and saying to get up.
Rogue growled bitterly as someone nose shoved his side.
"Don't growl at me. We have work to do." His older half brother, huffed, nudging him again. Myrios growled back at Rogues grumble and pushed him again.
"No." Rogue huffed, batting at the smaller wolf when he rolled over. "Poke me again and you shall persish." Yep. Threat was totally believable when he pulled his paw over his muzzle to shield his eyes. At least Myrios was blocking more of the sun now.
"Normally, I wouldn't care if you slept the day away. I'd leave it to someone else to drag your lazy hide out of bed." Myrios sighed. "Unfortunately, the alphas asked for the pack to be all up and awake for an announcement."
That was enough for Rogue to pull his paw back and open one eye to stare at his brother, trying to pick if this was just a new way to get him up. Hmm, nope his face looked pretty serious. Great.
"Fine." Rogue growled lowly, dragging his paws under him and heaving his large form upright. "I'm coming, I'm coming stop hovering." He yawned, dropping his front half down into a large stretch. Myrios obviously didn't listen and planned to wait. Rogue was tempted to flop back down just to spite his older brother but, maybe it was better to play nice. If the alpha did have an announcement it'd be a really bad idea to arrive late. Plus he'd get Myrios in trouble too. "Alright, let's go see what the big bad alpha wants from us now." Rogue smirked as he followed his brother out.

They made their way towards the slowly forming crowd. The pack was gathering around a tree. It was a very strange tree, almost completely white. Strong roots grew between the rocks, forcing them further apart as the tree fought for it's place amongst the cliffside. Growing stronger and refusing to relent to the elements and logic that a tree should not be able to grow so much in a rocky landscape. Especially when there was a forest nearby. The pack saw the tree as a testament to their strength. Their power. Not only would they refuse to relent, they would thrive. Even where the world believed they couldn't.
Rogue settled himself at the back of the gathering. He was large enough that he'd block other wolves view quite easily if he moved too far forwards. Myrios bumped his head lightly against Rogues, the gesture was returned, then the smaller wolf made his way to where he could listen and see better.
Some of the larger wolves settled themselves around the area Rogue had claimed. They had plenty of time before their alpha appeared apparently. Rogue sighed and put his head on his paws. He could've slept in more.

Sasha blinked. The sun had woken her, far too early. She rolled over, trying to go back to sleep. It wasn't like she was needed, or that someone was calling her name. She was just closing her eyes when she was slapped. Sasha yelped, and a strong scent of pine and mud washed over her. She knew who this was. Her cousin, Kento, hit her again when she wouldn't get up. "Get up, you lazy excuse for a wolf!" She growled at him. "Is that how omegas talk to betas? I don't think so." She got up, glared at him, and slapped him right in the face. "Hey hey hey owwww, Sasha!" He stumbled back, pain writen all over his face. " I came here to tell you that the alphas are calling a meeting" Sasha's voice had no empathy: "And why are they calling a meeting?" He shrugged. "The war, I guess"
_
Sasha shouldered herself past him and headed towards the boulder in the center of the clearing. Most of the pack was already there. The alphas wern't. She sat and grumbled quietly: "What do they want now?" Sasha studied the boulder like she always did when she was bored. The boulder was light gray, with twisting streaks of white all over it. Same as always. Disinterested, she looked for the alphas. They wern't in the clearing. So they are eighther in their den of out. Finally, the alphas, Mako and Kilra, leapt up onto the boulder and let out a howl to announce their presence. A few more wolves joined, eager for news. Mako spoke first: "We want to issue a warning," He gazed at the gathered wolves, letting his words sink in. "There has be more and more activity along the southern and eastern border. Any wolves who go there are to be careful. New rule for hunting patrols: Take a warrior with you and move in the shadows. We don't want unwanted attention. That is all." He nodded to Sasha, letting her know that it was her turn to speak. He and his mate jumped down and left for their den. Sasha spoke to the assembled wolves: "I want the lead hunter to organize two patrols. Take your quietest hunters and two strong warriors. Patrol the northern and eastern borders, and be back by sunhigh." The lead hunter, Callista, nodded and gathered her wolves. Sasha turned to the lead warrior: "Tayo, take all your warriors and apprentices and train them for battle. We need to be prepared. Go whereever you like, but be back soon" When he turned to leave, Sasha added: "On second thought, stay near camp." The lead bowed his head in aggreement, and departed alongside the warriors. A few hunters were left, and Sasha still had this she wanted done. "The rest of you, enforce the dens and camp barrier, make them as thick as possible. I know, it's summer and the dens will get hot, but isn't that better than a thin, flismy den that enemies can destroy? Clean all the dens as well." With that, Sasha padded out of camp. She wanted to patrol the southern border. It was risky, but she'd manage. Sasha raced through the trees towards the border.

This was not worth gathering the pack. Rogue chuckled softly and shifted to lay on his side as the alphas went on their weekly rant of being careful and avoiding causing drama and squabbles at the borders. It was so boring and tedious. They were at war after all, squabbles were common and often just minor and easy to ignore. He had to admit, Rogue was starting too doze off a little bit. Until one of the wolves next to him coughed quickly and nudged him. What was it? Oh. Damn. Now the alpha was staring at him. Oops.
"Well, it seems Rogue is convinced our pack and territory is secure, since he's dozing off in the sun." The alpha male growled as he stepped forwards. Rogue pinned his ears flat back and dropped his head. "Perhaps you can make sure our pack borders are secure then, hmm?" The alpha huffed.
Rogue nodded silently, pulling himself up and quickly trotting off. He'd dozed off during a pack meeting, this absolutely fair punishment and, if Rogue was being honest, he expected more when he returned. For now though, he could at least go ahead and do this properly. The pack borders would be secured and he would go back. Maybe he'd see if the alpha would let him apologise properly. Hmm, yeah he should've done that before he left on patrol. Okay, he would definitely do that when he got back.
Patrol was always so long, especially when Rogue was being particularly thorough this time. Making sure that there were no fading scents from his pack, and no new scents from elsewhere. Their rivals weren't the only thing to worry about, loners and nomads were a constant possibility. Sometimes there were young wolves, or pairs moving through that would cross a border without thinking they'd actually meet another wolf. Some territories were quite large after all. It wasn't a bad idea really, if you were able to live under a packs nose, in their territory? It was a pretty good deal. Protection and safety. Though they were often punished severly when they were found. Some younger wolves were spared but, Rogue had heard of some nomads being killed when they were discovered living in some packs territories. The fates were worse if one of the nomads managed to forge an attachment to one of the packs members. For both wolves.
Rogue shook himself off remembering the story and continued forwards. It wasn't long till a new scent drifted on the wind. Another wolf. Rogues hackles raised as he moved towards the scent.

Panting, Sasha skidded to a halt just before she crashed into a bramble bush. There were lots of them near the border, so she must be getting close. Sasha sat down, resting her legs for a while. She was about to continue when a strong scent hit her nose. Rabbit. She wasn't on a hunting patrol, but extra prey was always appreciated. The smell was comming from the border, wich was the exact direction Sasha needed to go. She got up, and slowly, very slowly started creeping up on her prey. Stepping around dry plants and twigs, the beta's eyes darted left and right, searching for the source of the scent. She was beggining to give up when she saw it: a big, fat rabbit nibbling on some grass in a clearing. Sasha dropped into a crouch, prepared to spring. And paused. The border was just beyond the clearing. If the rabbit fled, it might run over it. If she was lucky, she could catch it without anyone noticing. If someone did catch her, she'd be in trouble. Big time. Stealing prey was punishable by death in some places, being banned was the price in others. And from what she heard, death was the penalty during war. The less enemies, the better for the other pack.
~
Should she risk it? Sasha's thoughts whirled. On one paw, if she could catch the prey without it running accross the border, noone would know she was there. On the other paw, if it did go accross, and she was caught, there would be problems. Sasha sighed. She'd risk it. She fixed her gaze on the rabbit and crept closer. It's ears twitched, but it stayed put. Sasha got into striking distance. And charged. The rabbit squealed in surprise and ran. Sasha raced after it, blood pounding in her ears. The prey made an abrupt turn, and Sasha almost lost her footing. Almost. She followed after it and picked up speed. The rabbit's tail was a tails-length from her face. She leapt on top of it and brought it crashing to the ground. She snapped it's neck with a swift bite, tasting it's warm blood. The elders would be happy. She stood, gazing around her, and froze. She wasn't on her territory. The trees had vanished, and the ground had turned from leaves to rocky soil. She needed to get out of here, and quick. Sasha started sprinting back towards the border, but she was tired from chasing the rabbit and it's weight dragged her down. She half ran, half stumbled back to her territory. But before she could reach the safety of the trees, a breeze carried something across her snout. The scent of a wolf. And a close one too. She wasn't fast enough to reach the border. She was in no condition to fight. Only one other option: hide. Hide, and cover her scent. The land was barren, almost no plant life that could provide shelter. There were a few berrybushes, but those were a little ways off. She trotted over to them. Sasha fled under the closest berrybush she could duck under, smearing herself and the rabbit with blackberries, and hoped, prayed that noone would find her.
ps: how should they meet?

The scent of blood soon mixed with the smell of the wolf. That could be bad. He couldn't smell any new wolves though, so it was unlikely that one of his packmates had stumbled across the intruder. He was the only one out here patrolling anyway, or should be. Rogue paused, one paw raised as he scented the air again. Closer this time, making sure to really confirm what he could smell. Was that rabbit? Was the intruder stealing prey? Now he had to find out if this wolf was a nomad or one of the rival packs. Rogue snarled again and hurried forwards.
It was easy to track the scent to a kill spot. At least he knew his nose wasn't wrong. He'd followed the scent towards the border, picking up speed when he realised the wolf was making a break for it. Then it had stopped, and now the scent was difficult to find. They were here though. They were somewhere close, they had to be.
"I know you're there." Rogue growled, deep and low as he stalked around the bushes and shrubs. Pausing every few moments to rescent the air and listen. "There's so few places you can hide here." He brushed one of his paws over a small section of bush and crushed it as he stepped forwards. "I know you took from us." He snarled, carefully walking towards another section of shrub. "Show yourself, coward." Rogues tail lashed higher in the air as he continued stalking. "Your fate will be worse if I have you drag you out."
