Shadow could hear the humans yapping outside, but couldn't understand what they were saying. Turning to the fox, he asked quietly. "How many?" "Five I count." The fox responded quietly, flicking her ears. "Split up soon they will." Nodding, Shadow laid his head on his paws listening for the hunters to leave.

Shadow sighed as the hunters left and laid his head onto Hail's back. A rustle told him that the fox had left before he drifted off to sleep.

Shadow felt Hail lick his head and yawned, opening his eyes. Stretching, he got up and slowly went up the tunnel. Peeking out of the cave, he looked through the skies not hearing a thing. Moving the branches to the side, he went outside before hearing the ravens. "Hunter. Gone. Safe. Hunter. Free." Letting out a sigh, he went back in to tell Hail, "The hunters are gone. It's safe to come out now."

Shadow followed them out before saying to Hail, "Stay close to the den. I'm going to check the perimeter, make sure everything's ok." He slowly started to lope quietly through the trees, scenting everything and listening to every detail.

Loping through the trees, he found that the human scent was stale. Coming to a border, he found that his marks were crossed off. Quickly rubbing his scent over the tree and scratching his claws deep into it again, he marked it as his. Looking around, he shook his head before going to his north border.
