Gus enjoyed salmon, but trout always had a better taste and texture than salmon. His laugh was soft and thoughtful when Apollowed called him a family guy, but it ceased after hearing the question. The boy's voice wasn't full of malicious intent and it didn't sound like prying, but Gus still reacted as though he was. "I don't know, it's just not that important," he said quickly and almost defensively, looking Apollow in the eyes. "What about you? Whats your backstory?"

Apollow felt kind of bad after hearing show Gus reacted to his question."My bad, I just guess i like to know about other people's upbringings" he made eye contact but shied away " it's complicated" he said, and thought about how to further explain "I guess it was just a lot of discipline and tough love." He laughed a little at his attempt to describe it. "I pretty much was out and self sufficient the moment I turned 16, and so not too long ago" he ran his hand nervously through his hair.

Gus sighed, feeling sorry for how he acted towards Apollow, who was giving him a place to be away from the world, and someone to talk to. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "For reacting so harshly and for the way you grew up. That's got to be rough, living alone." He paused, finishing his food and letting his leg bounce again. "My parents split about 2 years ago, and it tore my mom apart. She has full custody of us, but we hardly ever see her. She's always in the one bedroom we have in the trailer. My siblings and I have to sleep out in the 'living room' on mattresses and the floor. That's why I don't share it much."

"It's alright, some people don't like to share and I get it" Apollow replied, and then listened to what Gus shared. "Well, I like living on my own, but it's not for everyone. " he paused for a moment, "would you like more?" He asked, seeing the Gus had finished " oh, thank you for sharing, I personally never knew my dad, but that must be hard for you, my door is always open" he smiled and finished his glass of apple juice

Gus blushed when Apollow offered his place whenever he needed it. That wasn't something that most people would do for Gus, especially after knowing him only for a day. He nodded his head, worried he was being greedy when he asked for more food. This was something that Apollow made for just the two of them, but he felt needy asking for another serving. His leg tapped away at the ground under the table, relieved he decided to tell Apollow about his family life. "What else do you want to know?"

Apollow saw the contemplation and grabbed Gus's plate before he had to say anything "I'll get you more, there's plenty!" He made his way to the kitchen and contemplated what else he wanted to know. "What are your siblings like? I'm the youngest in my family so I never had a chance to experience that" he returned to the table with another serving for Gus. He set it down in front of him and returned to his seat, awaiting a response.

Gus took a moment to think about his siblings. "Sometimes, they're very annoying and don't listen, but oftentimes, they know we need all hands on deck when our mom isn't up. Usually, Jack does a lot of cleaning, and I help him out. He is very open to doing whatever I need him to, but I think he does it to get on my good side so I let him go out at night. Kailey makes the food a lot of the time. That, I do not help with very often. I'm not a natural cook, and I tend to burn things. She does it because she wants to grow up to be a chef. I usually have to take them to school, but they've started walking home on their own because of hockey." Gus stopped for a bit, realizing he'd been rambling.

Apollow listened as Gus rambled, letting out a quiet "I see" or head nod every now and then. "She wants to be a chef? That's splendid! I'm glad they help out, you definitely need it." He felt bad for how Gus had to grow up, and take care of his siblings " of you ever need a babysitter or a place to hang out yourself, my door is pretty much always open, unless I'm recording" he threw his comment out there in hopes to ease some of gus's stress. He then got up to get some water "you sure you don't want anything? You've got to be thirsty after the game" he looked at Gus and smiled while he pulled down a glass from the cupboard.

Gus finally gave in, smiling sheepishly and looking at Apollow. He sighed, "Yeah, I guess Ill have some water, thank you." His dark eyes watched every one of Apollow's movements, tracking him carefully. Everything about the way he did anything seemed so graceful and natural, yet so calculated as well. Gus waited a moment before asking his new friend, "Why did you decide to talk with me? Like, we didn't know each other, and then you invited me to your place as well. I very much could have been a terrible person, but you didn't see to care. Why is that?"

Apollow took a moment to think about his next response. Maybe it was more than a moment, because by the time he actually started talking he was back at the table with water for both of them. "Well, I like to think I'm a good judge of character." He took a sip of water and soundless set his glass back down. "And you seemed like a good person. Not stereotypical or anything. And to be honest I felt like talking to someone and you happened to be behind me." He left out the fact that he had a constant urge to pat his head and draw him anything under the sun. "I also saw you peeking at my drawing and I felt ya staring. No worries though." He thought for a second before adding more "I also like how you don't really know who I am, we can talk like friends I like it"
