Strengths
Callum is nearly unstoppable on the ice, he moves on it like a fish in water. He leans towards fast in terms of speed, even if he isn’t quite considered the fastest. His face off proficiency is unmatched, and that was the first thing that people noticed when he played in the Olympics. His accuracy with the puck is uncanny too, almost like he can do it without looking. He is better known as a highly skilled offensive player, with powerful plays. He can read the ice quickly, however isn’t as good of a defensemen. He is still a phenomenal defensemen, however his defense skills are no match for his offensive skills.
His offensive stats always look better than his defensive, and his scoring ability is powerful. One of his greatest talents is when a teammate will pass the puck to him when they are near the net, and just as the puck connects with the stick, he can flick it straight into the net. He loves to play to shoot and score points, however he can be a team player. Callum knows when to let one of his teammates score, and has been known to even set his teammates up to score.
He is most known for his powerful attacks, and while he is very good at avoiding fights, he can get very aggressive on the ice while knowing where the line is. His agility and balance are incredible too, and he can cut a sudden 180 with ease. His hand-eye coordination is deadly accurate, and he trains often to maintain it.
Weaknesses
Since Callum is better and more honed for offensive play, playing defense can get a little tricky sometimes. He has a bad habit of leaving gaps sometimes, and gets more focused on trying to get the puck back then defending all aspects. His focus can get too focused on the puck, which makes him forget to watch for where other players can be. He also gets tunnel vision when he gets close to the net, when he has the puck, and is close to the net, he wants to score. He can set his teammates up, but if he’s within a certain range of the net, he forgets his teammates and narrows down to scoring.
When games get too slow, he gets impatient and twitchy, making him play a little more aggressively. Callum thrives in the chaos, when he is on the ice, he has to go, go go. One of his greatest weaknesses is his backhand. His quick flicks on the forehand are deadly and accurate. However, when he is forced to backhand, his accuracy drops, and those who notice this have exploited it. Slapshots are also a weakness, when he hits it right, the result is deadly. However, more often than not he doesn’t enjoy using it. It doesn’t feel right, so he often overthinks it and his accuracy goes down.
Another problem is bouncing pucks, most of the time he can recover. But a good amount of times, even the slightest bounce can knock him off. Since he often is already in motion to move the puck forward as it comes to him, the slightest inconsistency can throw him off. Another problem is bigger, heavier opposing centers. He is decently sized and powerful, but there are occasionally bigger and more powerful centers. It becomes the biggest problem when there are net-front battles. He does have a physical limitation, which is his old shoulder injury that can sometimes flare at the worst possible moments, causing him to miss shots or passes. However, he has been attending a lot of physical therapy to work on it.
Physical Appearance
Callum stands at a strong six feet tall, although most people assume he’s taller, and he weighs around 197lbs. While his build is proportional to his height and weight, it is clear he is athletic. He has a solid frame, without being bulky, as he is built for explosiveness and stamina. He has powerful shoulders and chest. However, his greatest muscle revolves around his forearms, wrists, and core for grip strength, powerful wrist flick based moves, and core stability. While his lower body is not as powerful, he still works on them so that he can maintain a good balance for agility. While he is right hand dominant.
Callum has slightly curly hair that is styled in a lower taper fade, with short, smooth sides that slowly fade near the ears and neck that has thick curls left longer at the top. Although, oftentimes it looks messy because he likes to run his hand through it, especially when he is stressed. He has striking ice blue eyes that can be compared to the winter sky just before snowfall. When he is angry or intimidating, they are cold, cutting blue like frozen steel, beautiful but unforgivable. When he is happy or showing his softer size, they seem to soften to a gentle blue that brightens and seems to thaw when he smiles. Callum’s skin tone is olive-toned, subtle with earthy sun-warmed skin, and seems to be evenly tanned across his skin (possibly from nude sunbathing). He prefers to remain almost clean-shaven, most often sporting a shadow of a stubble, just enough to add definition to his face.
Some distinguishing features of his are the freckles on his face. They are hard to see, except when the sun hits them just right. They are a light smatter across his cheekbones. He also has a slight dimple in his right cheek when he gives a genuine smile. While Callum also sports his fair share of scars, most of them from hockey and childhood shenanigans. He also has one on his jaw from one of his few fights on the ice, a thin one from his jaw towards his chin. He also has a shoulder scar from a hockey incident that nearly ended his career before it even began. It is a faint, pale slightly puckered scar over his right shoulder from a collision.
He is always seen wearing a silver necklace with a small silver cross on it, it is a family heirloom that he is very fond of. On the ice, he is most commonly found in the standard hockey uniform with padded shoulders and elbow guards. Of course, he has hockey pants, shin guards, gloves, and skates. His helmet (with the visor) often has a few of his jet black curls peeking out from underneath and he fidgets a lot more than he realizes when he is not in motion. He likes to chew on his mouthguard, yet when he is in action, he is precise and remarkably focused. For casual wear, he loves jeans and joggers (usually joggers), and can most often be found in sports wear since he likes to work out. He also likes t-shirts, and when it gets chilly, he adds hoodies in neutral tones.
When he is at a social/formal event for public press, hockey events, etc. he has two different fits, which often depends on how formal the event is. If it is casual formal, he is often in nice jeans with neutral or dark colored flannels. However, if it is form he is in a dark color tailored, slim-fit suit, complete with dress shoes. He prefers to leave the first few buttons of the white dress shirt unbuttoned. If he is out of the suit jacket, the sleeves are usually rolled up to reveal his forearms. He sometimes adds a watch to seem fancy, but usually forgets it. His game-day fit is somewhere between casual and nicer, sporting a nice top of some kind that sports the team’s color or logo with nice jeans or athletic pants. His voice is slightly deep with a tint of smoothness and richness. He usually remains quite calm and authoritative. However, he lightens up when he is teasing or being playful. His Scottish accent is heavy enough to tell that he is from Scotland, however people can still understand him without too much struggle.
Personality
On the outward appearance, usually public appearances, he remains calm and collected. He is very hard to rattle and likes to remain professional. His answers are typically thoughtful and careful, and his private life has remained incredibly private. He does not like to be vulnerable, nor does he want people to know too much about him. He does know how to play right into the media’s hands though as he can be slightly playful and witty to entertain, amuse, and charm. He also can be considered the ideal athlete and can lean a little on the cocky side.
His softer side that is usually visible for close friends and family only, sometimes for teammates, makes him seem much more approachable and likable. He is loyal to a fault to those that he loves and is incredibly protective. While he avoids fights, he is not afraid to start one for his teammate (under the condition that it is a valid reason). He is more emotionally vulnerable, he can express himself better. While his smiles and laughter become more common and more genuine. His love language is touch (which is ironic since he usually hates physical contact with people who are not his family). He most often does touching, quiet gestures (remember little details, listening, etc.).
Overall, he is also resilient and persistent. He does not give up easily, in fact, even when he had a career threatening injury. He is also uncanningly intelligent and strategic, making him a quick thinker on the ice. He is also observant and his instincts are highly developed for hockey.
However, Callum is not without his fair share of weaknesses and flaws. He is a bad overthinker and can drown in it, as he worries he’s not living up to the right images. And he often bottles things up, it is very hard for him to open up emotionally. For example, he has never told anyone how much his father’s death actually affected him. Anxiety is also a big problem for him; his old injury bothers him more often than he’s comfortable with (or comfortable with admitting) and anytime the same situation starts to arise again, he gets antsy. It is hard to tell, since he fidgets a lot in general, but he fidgets with his hands, gets tense, and his eyes seem to get colder. He has a bad habit of isolating himself, especially during emotional turmoil.
Callum can have an extremely bad temper whenever people tip him over. Thankfully, it is very hard to piss him off, since he is so good at bottling things up and remaining very calm. However, he can get mean, not violet but very mean. He can be a little bit of a perfectionist in his life, which adds more stress to him, because he feels like he has to be perfect and live up to everybody’s expectations of him. He is scared of losing people, which is one reason he doesn’t like to form emotional connections.
A couple of Callum’s strengths involve mental resilience. Even though on the inside and in private moments, he can spiral. In the public, he can handle pressure and criticism and it can be hard to unnerve him. He is a strategic thinker with exceptional awareness on and off the ice. While he is built to be a center, and does it phenomenally, he has also adapted and learned to combine strength, agility, and balance to further himself.
Brief History
His father was a hockey player when he was a kid, however never went past college. Magnus did play in a lot of clubs and when Callum got old enough, he started teaching his son. Then when Callum not only showed a strong interest in hockey, but an incredible raw talent, Magnus and Isla enrolled him in everything hockey. Callum has played since before elementary school, and has fallen in love with the sport since he was a kid.
When he hit his sophomore year of high school, coaches and scouts started coming to watch him play, and he even got a few interviews with some of them. Causing him to consider playing for his home country in the Scottish National League, however, during the winter break in his junior year his family moved them to Las Vegas. Where he, thankfully, got to continue playing hockey and even got a full athletic scholarship to college. He did graduate from high school early, and progressed through college quickly. He played for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (Skatin’ Rebels) in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I.
In his last year of college, he was invited to play in the Olympics for Team Great Britain (since Scotland did not have an official Olympic team). He was one of the youngest to play in the Olympics. His age and his skills skyrocketed into the public’s eye where once he returned from the Olympic’s, began receiving offers. However, in the end, he went as the first overall draft pick to the Santa Fe Roadrunners.
