A soft humming and the clanging of metal filled the kitchen as Evie paced around, trying to decide what she wanted to make. Nobody was home yet, oddly enough. It wasn't uncommon for them to just up and leave, but they usually returned before dawn. She wasn't too connected with her family, she just coexisted in the same home with them. Her family had never been particularly close, even the older generations weren't.

She glanced around the large kitchen, still humming to herself. The house was an old house from the victorian home, one that the rich would have had. Her family came from old money, and the house had been in the family for awhile. It still was mostly furnished like a victorian style home, and had the oringinal flooring and wallpaper and whatnot. Except for the bedrooms, everyone chose to decorate them however they wanted.

She was especially fond of her room and found it to be a pretty cozy space. Many knew about the Byrd family, but didn't really know them. They were just known for being particularly wealthy and nobody really knew their faces. Evie peered into the pantry, scanning over her options.

At this point she had temporarily forgot about the woman from last night.

She had slept on the couch and was dressed in some of her clothes from the laundry room. Evie had chosen to wear a pair of pale grey pajama pants that had cats on them, and a plain black tank top. It was her usual attire for home anyways. Grumbling as she found nothing she wanted to eat in the pantry, she moved to the freezer.

Her face lit up as she pulled out a box of strawberry flavored toaster strudels. Evie was about to put them in the toaster whenever she remembered the woman upstairs. She'd have to ask if she wanted anything. She was a much kinder person whenever she wasn't bloodthirsty. "How am I even going to deal with this situation?" Evie spoke aloud to herself as she leaned against the countertop, waiting for her food to be done.

That was when she heard a door open from upstairs. Evie rubbed her temples and sighed. She could've just left the woman there or something, but she couldn't bring herself to. The city wasn't exactly a safe place, and even though she shouldn't care about the stranger at all, she still did.

Salem raises an eyebrow surprised when the door is unlocked and easily opens before her. Apparently this woman didn't intend to kidnap her. Though, if not.... why is she here? Salem's brow furrows as her confusion only increases as she steps out into the hallway. Once outside the room, she instantly notices the jarring contrast of the opulent victorain-era decor. "What the fuck is this place...?" She cautiously traverses the various winding hallways of the manor until she reaches a central staircase. On a wall at the bottom of the stairway, she notices a painted wooden carving of the Byrd family crest. Salem is familiar with the crest. She has worked a few private security contracts with the family for philanthropic events and the occasional travel security detail. She always found them a bit strange, but initially attributed that to their wealth and status. She never imagined this.
You've got to be shitting me. Salem thinks to herself. Is this the Byrd house? That woman is a Byrd? THE BYRDS ARE VAMPIRES??? This realization freezes Salem in her tracks until her train of thought is interrupted by the clanging of metal kitchenware and the faintly sweet aroma of fruit pastry. She cautiously creeps down the steps and follows the source of the noise until she finds her late night assailant supervising the re-heating of some toaster strudels.

At this point Salem is less afraid of the woman and more vexed by this woman who so casually drained her blood in an alleyway, took her home, and is making breakfast junk food as if nothing ever happened. The nonchalance this woman exhibited is especially what irked Salem. Like she feels the right to do whatever she pleases with whomever. Classic bourgeois entitlement.

Salem thinks to herself as she scowls and approaches the kitchen island. Reaching for one of the china plateware, she holds it in her hand before letting it shatter on the ground in a crash to gain the vampire's attention. "What the hell is wrong with you, Byrd? Typically, when you fuck someone up in an alleyway, you don't put them in your bed and go make breakfast like some screwed-up one night stand! Especially when you family owns half the real estate in this town! Respectfully, but not really, are you clinically stupid or something??" Salem shoots up an eyebrow in exaserbation as she waits for the woman to explain herself.

Evie was in the process of texting someone on her phone whenever she heard a crash and a shatter of glass. She simply looked up, raising her eyebrows at the sight of the woman from last night breaking a china plate. She opened her mouth to speak but was quickly cut off. "I have a name. But anyways, vampires go pretty wild when they're thirsty, yknow. I couldn't kill you and I especially couldn't leave you to be killed by some drug addict or worse on the street, you're too young." She shrugged her shoulders, glancing towards the toaster as it popped her food up.

"And it's not like I know where you live," she paused as she put her food onto a plate, "or know anyone who could get you home." A big, fluffy black cat strolled into the kitchen, meowing and rubbing against Evie's legs. It then moved to the stranger in the kitchen, repeating the same process. The cat then rolled over onto his back and raised a paw up towards her.

Evie couldn't help but wonder where the rest of them were. Probably sunbathing somewhere. She turned her attention back to the woman, taking in her features like she did last night. This time, she was able to make out a lot more. Her phone dinged and she glanced over to see who it was. It was her mother. 'Not sure if we can make it home today. Take care of August for me, love you.' Typical. Who knows were they were, they could be halfway across the country by now.

Evie looked back towards the woman and the cat, who was now on his back and pawing at the strings dangling from her sweatpants. Of course he just had to interrupt a serious moment. She couldn't help but crack a small smile as he meowed again, this time incredibly loud to try and get the woman's attention.

He was the most playful out of the cats and always wanted attention, no matter who it be from. Evie's smile quickly faltered as she remembered the situation she was in. She wasn't expecting a 'thank you' or anything like that, but she was a tad confused. The whole thing was confusing and whatnot, but at least she didn't kill the woman or leave her to be killed.

"Yeah, I know you've got a name." Salem replies sharply. "But you never told me what it is. I guess you forgot that part last night." She grumbles and leans against the kitchen counter as she keeps her eyes on the woman. "My name is Salem by the way...if you didn't already know that. I worked a contract for your family a couple months ago. Is that how you singled me out? Though, I've never saw you around with the other Byrds..."

Salem then listens to the woman speak about how she didnt want to kill her or leave her alone in the street. "Hm..Well, I appreciate the consideration...all things considered." She reaches up to gingerly touch the band-aid on her neck as a wave of lightheadedness overcomes her. "Fuck..." She glances the toaster strudels and takes one off the vampire's plate before biting into it. "Sorry," she replies while chewing, "but if I don't eat something I'm going to pass the fuck out again." As the rush of sugar hits her system, it keeps her sustained enough for the moment.

While finishing the strudel, Salem remains quiet as the woman percieves her, texts on the phone, and moves throughout the kitchen. When the cat approaches her, Salem gives it a couple pets as a courtesy but is preoccupied with the situation.

"So...what are you going to do with me?" She raises an eyebrow and locks eyes with Evie. "I'm going to venture and say you usually don't take your victims home with you. If you wanted to kill me, you would have done that already. If you wanted me to forget you, you could have left me somewhere last night." Her brow furrows slightly. "Yet...as a member of a prominent family in this region...you decide to take me to your actual family home to make breakfast after using me as a human juicebox in an alleyway...What's your angle? What do you want?" Salem finishes the strudel and crosses her arms while maintaining eye contact with the other woman.

Evie raised a brow at the woman. "Evangeline. But I prefer Evie." She listened quietly as the woman spoke again. "Salem.. I like that. No, I actually had no clue who you were. You just looked like an easy target but obviously that wasn't true." She chuckled before speaking again. "I don't have much involvement in my family, I'm just a nuisance to them."

Evie brought a hand up to her nose, adjusting her crooked septum piercing. It always seemed to be crooked and it bothered her. She watched as Salem grabbed one of the toaster strudels from her plate, but she didn't make an effort to do anything about it. "Do you.. want me to make you something? Or give you advil?" She frowned, obvious concern in her voice. It was odd, she shouldn't care at all but she did.

Evie didn't wait for an answer, she turned and approached the microwave. She stood on her toes as she reached up to open a cabinet and pull out a little bottle of advil. She moved to a different cabinet and grabbed a glass, filling it with water and setting both down in front of Salem. Evie paused as Salem spoke again and locked eyes with her. Everything in her body told her to look away, but she didn't.

"I don't know, it depends on if I think I can trust you or not." She searched Salem's face for a reaction. "Well.. I don't want anything. I took you here because it's not like I have a house of my own yet, I'm supposed to inherit this thing." Evie gestured to the house around them. She didn't think there was a point in getting her own house when her parents were reaching the ends of their lives.

Who even knew how old they were at this point? Evie grabbed her remaining toaster strudel and quickly ate it, grimacing at the fact it wasn't hot anymore. "If I'm able to trust you, I'll just take you back to the city or something. You'd get lost if you tried to leave on your own." She couldn't handle the eye contact this time, and quickly averted her gaze to the cat on the floor.
