Fern Honesty that makes so much sense rather than wasting a good meat cow because they are lame put them to good use . What about their hide do you use that to make leather when you butcher the cows yourselves ?

Fern It fluctuates block by block 😠one street you are lucky to pay $4 a gallon, most of the time it's like $6+. I remember when I was in college it was basically $7 and I had to drive 40 minutes each way...

Dom Oh that tracks. I bet it's insane :') I've heard gas in Cali has been high for so long
Wendigo
Fern I'm less than an hour south of LA 😠costs are just as bad here and they seem to get worst every year. Even gas is nutty 😠

Dom That is good at least, and very kind of you <3 I'll be fortunate in a similar way someday when I return to the family ranch
Wendigo
Otherwise I'd easily be paying 2k+ a month for a decent studio/one bed apartment

Fern Oh it's BAD here, I'm just fortunate enough that when I moved back, I moved back into my family home to take care of my dad
Fernweh.
Dom I totally get that! And that's valid too xD It's probably wildly expensive there. Cost of living here is pretty high too

Fern I grew up in and out of cities/suburbs. I've always hated it here but I've stayed because of family. I think once my father passes (which I hope it won't be for a LONG time) I'll probably go out and find a plot of land. Just not here in California XD

Winter It's definitely a lot, so thank you <3 I'm the 7th generation of my family on our ranch :) 1 bull can breed ~25 cows per year. We have around 200 mama cows, so we usually have 9 bulls, just in case somebody gets hurt. It depends on what you breed for! We breed for meat, so our bulls generally have a lot of muscle, good skeletal structure, and a calm temperament for ease of being around them. We usually only breed bulls until they're around 7 years old, whereas cows are allowed to stay as long as they are fit, healthy, and happy :) We have several cows in the herd that are currently 14 and doing great! Sometimes we keep them for ourselves to butcher and eat; other times, they're sold at an auction and they do whatever! It just depends on who buys them. Butcher is definitely most common though. Especially in old cows that are lame (limping). It's what's best for them at that point

Fern Dang I do love beef especially ribs now I'm hungry :D I find it so amazing the dedication it takes to keep a farm together and raise all these animals so hats off to you and your family . So how does picking a bull work do you usually keep the same bull for a while then switch ? I take it once the girlies have retired from producing babies they get shipped off to become beef burgers too xD

Winter I have several cow dogs; that's one of the red heelers! Her name is Maddi <3 I love calves :D Dom Totally! I grew up rurally, so living in a big ass dorm building smack center in the city has been an adjustment and a learning moment---definitely will be living rurally forever :')

My old pack got deleted because I forgot about it back in 2018/2017, oops. If you wish to know, I was known as Quiet moon. I'm always up for a chat, but I cannot guarantee a quick responses. I spend a lot of time training and I get zoned out so my b. My first two wolves are Grizzly and Blake, and I hope I can catch up to my old stats. I like pretty wolves, rarely do I keep below 30R unless they have a perk. If I do have one in my pack, it is most likely for sale and negotiable. Update: Life got a little crazy and I have let my pack kind of dwindle down. With my time away, all of my big hitters are now deceased. I'm not quite ready to try to rebuild my pack, especially since all my favorite wolves are gone and weren't bred to keep lineage, so I am currently MIA. I will return when I'm able to put the work into restoring my former glory, so this account will be revisited and semi-active. For now, I lie in wait for motivation to kickstart my glorious return, lol. Have a nice day! 0 Comments |
