Long, long ago, there was a fierce pack that none dared to approach. They were strong, they were smart, and they were well-fed. Their home could not have been more ideal for a wolf pack. Food was bountiful, the river supplies endless water, and there were countless places for shelter from the wind or rain. It was believed that these wolves had found paradise, and they were hoarding the power it gave them. They were unstoppable! Or so they thought...
Strange two-legged creatures came from a far away land. They made waste of the meadows, hunted the wild game to extinction, and polluted the river with mud when they began to mine for the precious mineral they called silver. These two-legs, these...men, as they called themselves, brought famine and disease to the mighty pack. The first wolves died of dehydration, the next of starvation, and most of the survivors of disease. Many of the remaining wolves chose to leave the once beautiful valley, only one chose to stay. The son of the alpha. Too stubborn to let his birthright be taken from him, he chose to fight!
The young wolf decided to learn what made this silver that the men where after so special. So he entered the two-legs camp and headed toward the silver ore that they were mining. It shone brilliantly in the moonlight, and seemed to sing when the wind blew over it. The young wolf listened to the song he believed he was hearing and felt a burning urge to sing with it. He jumped atop the ore and howled with all his might in perfect harmony with the song of the ore. He howled until his lungs felt like fire! Then the wind stopped, but he still felt like he was burning. Looking down from the silver rock, he saw several men looking at him, one of which had shot him with one of their fire sticks. He heard the silver ore whisper to him, "FIGHT," and in a heartbeat he had flung himself from the rock onto the nearest human. In a matter of minutes, every man in the camp was dead. The wolf returned to the silver and touched it with his nose. "Thank you." It whispered to him. He shook his head and snorted as a silver marking appeared over his wound. "No," he said to the silver, "thank you."
With the power of the silver on his side, the young alpha moved the silver rock into a small cave hidden deep inside a cavern under a waterfall. His pups were also gifted with power from the ore, and they all bore silver marks to prove it. He told his offspring about the ore, but only the next alpha would know where it was hidden. If the greed of man could bring destruction upon his valley, then he could only imagine what the greed of a wolf could do...
